It was the year 1208. St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans), was struggling to bring people back to the truth of the Gospel. Heresies were spreading, and hearts were turning away from Christ. That’s when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him, offering the Rosary as a lifeline — not only for him, but for the Church.
She asked him to preach the Rosary and promised it would bring countless graces. St. Dominic obeyed. His mission caught fire. The Rosary, simple but powerful, began spreading across Europe, bringing conversions, healing, and peace.
While historians agree that the Rosary developed slowly over time, the deep connection between St. Dominic and the Blessed Mother’s gift has been affirmed by many popes and saints. And this connection still matters — especially today.
In our Canadian communities — where faith is often quiet, and many feel lost or overwhelmed — we need the Rosary again. Like in Dominic’s day, confusion surrounds us. Many people feel far from God, unsure of where to begin. The Rosary is a gentle reentry point.
