The Rosary Mysteries: A Journey Through Christ’s Life with Mary
The Rosary isn’t just a string of prayers — it’s a meditation on the life of Jesus Christ. Through four sets of Mysteries, we walk with Mary through the most important moments of the Gospel. Each set includes five events, or “mysteries,” that help us reflect on Christ’s love, His mission, and the hope we have through Him.
When we pray the Rosary, we’re not just repeating words. We’re entering into the Holy Scriptures, guided by Mary, who shows us how to follow Jesus more closely.
Here’s a quick guide to the four sets of Mysteries — feel free to bookmark this page and return anytime:
The Joyful Mysteries
(Mondays & Saturdays)
These focus on Christ’s birth and early life — full of hope and promise.
- The Annunciation (Luke 1:26–38)
- The Visitation (Luke 1:39–44)
- The Nativity (Luke 2:1–14)
- The Presentation (Luke 2:22–30)
- The Finding in the Temple (Luke 2:41–52)
The Luminous Mysteries
(Thursdays)
Added in 2002 by Pope St. John Paul II, these highlight Jesus' public ministry.
- The Baptism in the Jordan (Matthew 3:13–17)
- The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1–11)
- The Proclamation of the Kingdom (Mark 1:15, Luke 4:18-19)
- The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–8)
- The Institution of the Eucharist (Matthew 26:26-28)
The Sorrowful Mysteries
(Tuesdays & Fridays)
Here, we meditate on Christ’s suffering — His love shown through sacrifice.
- The Agony in the Garden (Matthew 26:36–46)
- The Scourging at the Pillar (John 19:1, Isaiah 50:6)
- The Crowning with Thorns (John 19:2-3)
- The Carrying of the Cross (John 19:17, Mark 15:21)
- The Crucifixion (Luke 23:33–46)
The Glorious Mysteries
(Wednesdays & Sundays)
These celebrate Christ’s victory and Mary’s heavenly role.
- The Resurrection (Matthew 28:1–10)
- The Ascension (Mark 16:19-20)
- The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1–4)
- The Assumption of Mary (Revelation 12:1, Judith 15:9-10)
- The Coronation of Mary (Psalm 45:10-14; Luke 1:46–48)
Why do we meditate on these mysteries? Because they help us enter more deeply into God’s love. They remind us that Mary walks beside us — always leading us to her Son. And through these reflections, we grow in peace, strength, and spiritual clarity.
